ABUSING THEM IS WRONG AND NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.

70% of people who abused animals had also been involved in other violent crimes. A person who has committed animal abuse is 5 times more likely to commit violence against people, 4 times more likely to commit property crimes, and 3 times more likely to be involved in drunken or disorderly offenses.

In 2010, President Obama signed the Animal Crush Video Prohibition Act which prohibited the creation and distribution of videos showing small animals being tortured. The Act was a step forward, however, this did not ban or prohibit the abuse. Last fall congress passed the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act and the President signed it into law that winter. The Pact Act criminalizes animal cruelty and makes it illegal. This was a big step forward.
